A database of Drosophila nomenclature

The name derives from the appearance of the testis, which are thin and translucent in males homozygous for the original hypomorphic (dia1) allele. This testis phenotype is due to a defect in cytokinesis in germ line stem cells, leading to depletion of all germ cells.
